Lin Feng, the male protagonist, returned after joining the army in his younger brother Lin Mo's place. He had expected to gain his family's recognition, but to his dismay, his father Lin Yuanshan, in order to pave the way for Lin Mo, forced him to give up the military achievements he had earned. Lin Yuanshan completely turned a blind eye to the hardships Lin Feng had endured over the years. To drive Lin Feng out of the family's core for good, Lin Mo even schemed to frame him for colluding with the enemy state—this false accusation left Lin Feng branded with the crime of treason. The entire family then jointly reported him, leading to Lin Feng being sent to prison. Little did they know that Lin Feng had already become the designated heir of the Prince of Northern Defense.
