3 At Home Tricks to Whiten Your Teeth

You could be looking at the most beautiful person in the world, but if they open their mouth to reveal a mouth full of yellow chompers, it will ruin everything. The fact is many first impressions are made based on someone’s teeth. People are always looking for ways to whiten their teeth, but dental procedures to whiten them can be expensive.

There are natural ways to help whiten teeth. Certain habits you pick up at home can fight plaque and other stains that build up on your teeth without you even knowing it. While over the counter teeth whitening products can be found in drugstores, they may not be great for those with sensitive teeth and many times they are expensive and don't even work. Give these natural remedies a try and you may see a difference in your smile in no time.

1. Use baking soda

A little baking soda mixture could be a great way to get rid of unsightly stains and plaque from your teeth. You’ll want to mix the baking soda in with your toothpaste and brush your teeth with the mixture (they also sell certain toothpastes with baking soda included). Use this mixture once or twice a week and rinse thoroughly to get the baking soda out of your mouth. You can also create a homemade whitening mouthwash with baking soda and lemon juice, vinegar, or hydrogen peroxide. Just mix the ingredients with cold water and rinse a few times a day to help whiten teeth.

2. Watch your bad habits

The reason your teeth may be so stained is that you are harming them with bad habits that you didn’t even realize were bad for your teeth. Smoking, among other health issues it brings on, is very bad for your teeth. Those who drink a lot of coffee or red wine also run the risk of staining teeth. Try to cut down on these habits and you may start to see an improvement in your teeth.

3. Orange peel rubdown

One strange but effective way to whiten teeth is to rub an orange peel all over teeth before you go to bed. The reason this works is that the vitamin C and calcium present in the peel spend the night combating the microorganisms that take the shine away from teeth.

The first thing people notice when you meet them is your smile. It doesn’t take much to keep those pearly whites shining – just a little at home TLC and your smile will sparkle!
